Community Involvement

We are actively involved in several community service organizations, universities, Davidson County schools and faith based community programs. In 2007 our involvement continued with:

Tennessee Organic Growers Association by serving on the board.
TOGA hosted a successful organic conference at Tennessee State University in March. New farmers, people interested in organics, businesses, and conventional farmers wanting to transition were given information and encourgagement to grow using sustainable and organic practices.

SSAWG - Southern Sustainable Agriculture Working Group
At the fantastic conference in January, I facilitated a workshop on Farmers’ Markets. This was a great opportunity for farmers/ vendors to learn what works, how to organize a market, and how to be successful at a market.

Franklin Farmers’ Market- as a board member.
This year the market increased the number of farmers and vendors. It was a roller coaster growing season, but our farmers were able to offer a great variety of produce, herbs, and cut flowers. Donations of produce to Good food for Good people for distribution to agencies dealing with feeding the hungry.

Food Security Partners of Middle Tennessee - as a founding partner involved in organization building, speaking to other partners groups and participating in the groups projects such as the Veggie Project.

World Relief Agency- mentoring a farmer from Sudan. Shared information about growing organically, marketing, farmers markets, and seasonal growing.

Farm visits – hosted several groups from Vanderbilt, Belmont and TSU and children groups.
